Change is not easy. Thoughts of it can prompt anxiety, uncertainty and even resistance. After all, the habits we form and ways of relating, however ineffective, grow familiar and comforting. This makes them hard to let go of.
Yet you possess an innate wisdom, a capacity for growth, and a potential and resiliency that make this step not just possible, but necessary.
You can make confident, conscious and brave decisions that initiate desired change and satisfaction. I want you to feel present and whole. Life can be different for you, and I can help you get there.
All I ask is for you to show up, stay committed, and together we will do amazing work.
The unconscious is that tucked away part of yourself. It includes thoughts, feelings, and urges that make themselves known through behavior, conversation, dreams, and feelings. Accessing the unconscious in therapy can lead to relief from psychological distress, increased self-awareness, improved coping mechanisms, release of emotions and traumas, and the uncovering of hidden motivations.
Working with me provides a space to explore this material. I believe that giving oneself space and time for contemplation and reflection is vital for our optimum physical and mental health. This space allows the chance to become aware of how we are feeling, in turn, helping us to tolerate and manage our emotions, feel less stressed and calmer. My aim is to help you find your authentic self and become self-reliant leading to a more fulfilling and free life.
The aim of therapy is to create the proper emotional space to reassure you that it is both essential and safe to dig deep in uncovering all that has shaped you to become who you are today.
We will begin by assessing your presenting problem(s) and identifying your needs. This will involve talking together about what matters most to you right now, as well as developing an understanding of your early life experiences. I will be active in this process by asking about your childhood, significant relationships, major events, traumas, pains, memories and goals. I will reflect back to you what I hear, see and feel during these early meetings. The goal at this point is to lay the groundwork for an effective and secure relationship that promotes safety, trust and connection.
My approach is integrative, drawing on psychodynamic therapy, ego psychology, object relations, and attachment theory. To this I like to incorporate mindfulness-based practice, a strengths-based perspective, and a good amount of creativity. I lean toward a direct, but compassionate and attuned approach. I like to combine my analytical roots with a common sense and savvy approach interwoven with a good amount of thought provoking question and conversation. While I have a particular style in the way that I work, I have never worked with you. This means our work together will be unique and tailored—meeting you where you are at, and evolving with a natural fluidity based on your own growth and needs.
Therapy is a collaborative journey of self discovery and a rich commitment to yourself. Together we will work to understand your past and its connection to your present. We will uncover internal roadblocks, or faulty beliefs, allowing you to rid yourself of damaging habits or coping skills that have outgrown their usefulness.
Imagine the ability to grow confidently in whatever direction you choose. Imagine experiencing yourself, and your most significant relationships in different and renewed ways. Imagine restoring connection to your greatest self.
Establishing deep inner knowing and a compassionate acceptance of yourself and journey will allow you to finally make sense of it all. These become the gifts of therapy from which you can begin to support your innate drive to heal, to grow, to be fully alive, spontaneous, real and free.
Learn to observe yourself, to become curious about the “why,” and to begin to see all that you do and create blindly. Spark self-curiosity and begin to objectively view and understand your behavior and habits. Cultivate self-hood, confidence, and accountability all in the name of creating a life that is authenticity yours.
Therapy will humble you to become a student of yourself. You will learn how to turn toward your pain with acceptance and compassion, ultimately allowing what you have previously pushed away or buried to guide you into the change and relief you are seeking.
You will always feel safe, but it is common to feel discomfort or intense emotions during different stages of our work together. This is normal and often a sign of progress, healing, or a breakthrough. This discomfort is in fact vital fuel for your transformation. It is part of the process of coming to grips with your truth, while connecting to your greatest source of power--your vulnerability. Vulnerability breaks down the barriers, adding clarity, and revealing what you truly need.
Our conversation is just getting started.
